What the teachers say……

Malsis School, Cross Hills

'Mrs Rahman provided a fabulous array of activities for the children. She gave clear explanations to the groups and involved them with some great questions and interesting facts.

The activities were appropriate for the age of the children. They particularly enjoyed dressing up in the fabulous range of clothing that Mrs Rahman brought with her.

If you are thinking of covering a topic to do with India or Pakistan, then I can thoroughly recommend Mrs Rahman for a fun, active and interesting day.'

“Yesmien came in and worked with my class of 7-9 year olds to give them a flavour of Muslim culture, food and costumes. They were all kept busy making and eating typical Muslim food, trying on some costumes, creating Islamic patterns, listening to music and were very proud of the henna tattoo painted onto their hands. It was a fantastic way to engage all the children in a rich variety of activities which introduced them to aspects of the Islamic culture. I thought Yesmien was fantastic at teaching children about her culture in a fun and very hands-on way. It was a great way to end our topic!”

Otley Street Nursery School
‘Yesmien came to Otley Street Nursery School for an Eid celebration day. She provided a variety of activities appropriate for young children which were all thoroughly enjoyed, by staff and children too. A lovely first introduction to cultural differences that aids understanding and friendship.

We all really appreciated your visit.  The staff agreed that it had been a very worthwhile day and we all learnt so much from you.  We thought it would be lovely to invite you back later in the year to do some cookery.  The children were also full of enthusiasm and have loved the henna tattoos.  They have done some very good work about the day too.
Thank you again and hope to work with you again soon

I have had a lot of very positive feedback from staff about last night - it went down really well, so thank you so much for coming. People thought you were very brave and strong after what you have been through, and several said the session was really helpful to them. There were no negatives at all! Thanks once again, and I hope we can be in touch with you again soon.

Article in Craven Herald - Education Matters by Ian Douglas
‘’Yesmien was able to arouse in the children (of Lothersdale School) a powerful fascination and appreciation of our wonderful world……It is a vital responsibility for schools in the modern era to help children to develop empathy understanding and balanced opinions of the ever more complex wider world. The visit of Yesmien was both an instrument and an inspiration in helping to achieve these ends.
Her formula for appreciating and respecting cultural differences is by a sharing of experiences with fun activities emphasising common needs and values all delivered with an infectious energy and sincerity..’’

‘I just wanted to thank you for a fabulous day and evening yesterday! It was wonderful and I would like to book you again for next year and make it an annual event. Maybe we could make the focus slightly different - cooking with the children and henna with parents as well as the food etc. The dancing is a must as the children and adults loved that too! I have had several text messages this morning saying what a great event and wanting to do it again!
I really loved hearing about your growing up and the cultural differences and some of the issues. You should write a book - you tell your story so well.
I feel you have enriched our lives and probably opened peoples eyes to lots of things they were unaware of {children and adults}
